22 Watt Car Subwoofer Amplifier

Circuit Description

The stereo signals coming from the line outputs of the car radio amplifier are mixed at the input and, after the Level Control, the signal enters the buffer IC1A and can be phase reversed by means of SW1. This control can be useful to allow the subwoofer to be in phase with the loudspeakers of the existing car radio. Then, a 12dB/octave variable frequency Low Pass filter built around IC1B, Q1 and related components follows, allowing to adjust precisely the low pass frequency from 70 to 150Hz. Q2, R17 and C9 form a simple dc voltage stabilizer for the input and filter circuitry, useful to avoid positive rail interaction from the power amplifier to low level sections.
This unit is intended to be connected to an existing car stereo amplifier, adding the often required extra "punch" to the music by driving a subwoofer. As very low frequencies are omnidirectional, a single amplifier is necessary to drive this dedicated loudspeaker. The power amplifier used is a good and cheap BTL (Bridge Tied Load) 13 pin IC made by Philips (now NXP Semiconductors) requiring a very low parts count and capable of delivering about 22W into a 4 Ohm load at the standard car battery voltage of 14.4V.

TDA8560Q Audio amplifier 2x40W

TDA8560Q general description:

Unfortunately, some of the proposed scheme in the network and even a scheme recommended by the developer (Philips), fail to achieve the desired result. As an example of how not to suggest that you include the TDA8560 material published on Online Soldering: Car Amplifier 2x40 Watt (I should note that everything except the input circuits and the number of points on diet, still deserves attention). the initial inclusion of IMS (at power up, the load is connected and there is no input signal) can throw you into a state of perplexity / mild shock (it depends on the degree of hope is for your TDA). Chip is unstable, there are noises when the input signal is amplified last weakly and passed with distortions. IC bypass surgery fixed resistor at the input, the other measures in consultation with the source device does not help. Why and what to do? Really caught Palen chip and will have to buy a new one? Not so fast! The fact that Philips did not include measures to prevent the self-excitation of the IC, but I think they know about it, but do not tell anyone (not good, gentlemen!) Rid chip excitement can (and should) in a way that is not described here. This is so far, my little secret. Usually TDA8560 include approximately recommend the following scheme: TDA8560Q Audio amplifier 2x40W

General description:
The TDA1566 is a car audio power amplifier with a complementary output stage realized in BCDMOS. The TDA1566 has two Bridge Tied Load (BTL) output stages and comes in a HSOP24 or DBS27P package. The TDA1566 can be controlled with or without I2C-bus. With I2C-bus control gain settings per channel and diagnostic trigger levels can be selected. Failure conditions as well as load identification can be read with I2C-bus. The load identification detects whether the outputs of a BTL channel are connected with a DC or AC load and discriminates between a speaker load, a line driver load and an open (unconnected) load. The TDA1566 can be configured in a single BTL mode and drive a 1 Ω load. For the single BTL mode it is necessary to connect on the Printed-Circuit Board (PCB) the outputs of both BTL channels in parallel.

Features:
  • Operates in I2C-bus mode and non-I2C-bus mode
  • TH version: four I2C-bus addresses controlled by two pins; J version: two I2C-bus addresses controlled by one pin
  • Two 4 Ω or 2 Ω capable BTL channels or one 1 Ω capable BTL channel
  • Low offset
  • Pop free off/standby/mute/operating mode transitions
  • Speaker fault detection
  • Selectable gain (26 dB and 16 dB)
  • In I2C-bus mode:
  • DC load detection: open, short and speaker or line driver present
  • AC load (tweeter) detection
  • Programmable trigger levels for DC and AC load detection
  • Per channel programmable gain (26 dB and 16 dB, selectable per channel)
  • Selectable diagnostic levels for clip detection and thermal pre-warning
  • Selectable information on the DIAG pin for clip information of each channel separately and independent enabling of thermal-, offset- or load fault
  • Independent short-circuit protection per channel
  • Loss of ground and open VP safe
  • All outputs short-circuit proof to VP, GND and across the load
  • All pins short-circuit proof to ground
  • Temperature controlled gain reduction at high junction temperatures

12 W car radio power amplifier

General Description

The TDA1020 is a monolithic integrated 12 W audio amplifier in a 9-lead single in-line (SIL) plastic package. The device is primarily developed as a car radio amplifier. At a supply voltage of VP= 14,4 V, an output power of 7 W can be delivered into a 4 Ω load and 12 W into 2 Ω. To avoid interferences and car ignition signals coming from the supply lines into the IC, frequency limiting is used beyond the audio spectrum in the preamplifier and the power amplifier. The maximum supply voltage of 18 V makes the IC also suitable for mains-fed radio receivers, tape recorders or record players. However, if the supply voltage is increased above 18 V (< 45 V), the device will not be damaged (load dump protected). Also a short-circuiting of the output to ground (a.c.) will not destroy the device. Thermal protection is built-in. As a special feature, the circuit has a low stand-by current possibility.
